Getting higher in search results is not a coincidence, but the result of a thoughtful approach. In this FAQ, we answer questions about how Studio 84 approaches this.

Search engine optimisation (SEO) involves setting up and improving your website so that it ranks higher in the organic (unpaid) search results of search engines like Google. This includes technical optimisations (fast loading time, mobile-friendly, good site architecture), on-page optimisations (quality content with relevant keywords, optimal titles and meta-descriptions, use of headings) and off-page factors (such as link building - making sure other sites link to your site).

The goal of SEO is to more and better traffic from search engines, without paying per click as with ads. If SEO is done right, your website will appear on page 1 of Google for your target audience's most important searches, ideally in the top 3, as they get by far the most clicks.

SEO is important because it gives you a sustainable presence in search engines. The vast majority of internet users click on organic results rather than ads, especially for informative queries. A high organic position also inspires trust ("this company comes at the top, so it must be good").

Moreover, organic traffic is often cost-effective: the effort is upfront in optimising, but afterwards, thousands of people can find you without each click costing you money. SEO is a medium-term game. Unlike paid advertising, you don't usually see results from SEO efforts tomorrow. New content can be indexed by Google within days, but to really rise in rankings on competitive keywords, you are often several months away. A rule of thumb: count on 3 to 6 months before you see clear improvements in rankings and traffic for a new site or new optimisations, especially in competitive industries. In less competitive niches or with cleverly chosen long-tail keywords, it can be faster. It is also cumulative: the longer you consistently publish and optimise good content, the more authority your domain gains, and the easier your subsequent pages will rank. It's important not to give up too early; SEO results build up.

At Studio 84, we look at both quick wins (e.g. improve existing pages on which you are just not ranking, fix technical errors quickly) if long-term actions (e.g. content planning for new keywords, link building campaigns). In this way, we try to make the time to the first results as short as possible, without losing sight of sustainable growth. We provide interim reports so you can see the progression e.g. an increase from position 50 to 20 after 2 months is a good sign, even though you are not yet at 1. With patience and regularity, top positions come within reach.

This is a common question with new websites or websites that rank poorly. Possible reasons why your site is not being found (well):

  • Your website is still new: New sites need time before Google indexes them and trusts them enough to rank high. Submit your site to Google Search Console and provide an XML sitemap.
  • Insufficient (good) content: If you have almost no text or pages, or the content does not match the terms people search on, Google will not see you as relevant. You need to make it clear what you are about by using targeted keywords in titles and text.
  • Technical thresholds: Maybe your settings block Google (e.g. via a noindex tag or a blocked robots.txt). Or your site loads super slow or is not mobile-friendly, which hurts your ranking.
  • No or few backlinks: Links from other sites are like votes of confidence. Without inbound links, Google may consider you "unknown". Link building or mentions on social media can help.
  • Lots of competition: It could also simply be that the keywords you want to be found on are very competitive, and others seem more relevant or stronger at the moment. You should then look for a niche or try extra hard in terms of content quality.

We often see with clients that a few targeted interventions (such as adding meta tags, correcting headers, writing additional content or solving technical issues) already make a big difference in indexation and findability.

SEO costs can vary based on what needs to be done and whether you do it yourself or outsource. If you work with an agency or specialist, there are usually monthly installments or packages. This is because SEO is not a one-off job, it requires follow-up and continuous optimisation. Some cost factors: preparing a keyword analysis and SEO strategy (one-off), on-site optimisations (technical and content, often initial larger work), content creation (e.g. writing blogs or landing pages regularly), and link building. Some companies charge a monthly flat fee, others work with hours or credits.

We then budget what actions are needed (e.g. 5 new texts, technical fixes, local SEO, etc.). We pour this into a proposal. Sometimes this is a one-off optimisation sprint, sometimes a retainer per month if there is ongoing work.

Important to realise: SEO is an investment that pays off over time. In the beginning, the cost seems to be there without immediate results (unlike Google Ads), but over time you will start to notice that your organic traffic increases and you need to spend less on ads. Our clients often experience that after 6-12 months of good SEO, sales have grown significantly with no increase in marketing budget. That is the power of SEO.
